Results: Benachie, A&K, Scottish

It was a busy week last week with several fixtures for both our ladies and our gents.

On Wednesday (1st June), all four of our triples struggled against Westhill in the Benachie league match, with the final score 72-42 to Westhill. This means this coming week’s game against Newhills at Belhelvie is a must-win to keep promotion hopes alive.

Our gents pairs, triples and fours saw their first action in the Scottish on Thursday. Unfortunately, our triples and fours were beaten by Rothienorman and Oldmeldrum respectively. This leaves just our pair of Brian and Phil W alive, after their 17-7 victory against Insch. They will play Ellon in the quarter final at Oldmeldrum this coming Thursday. Our senior fours are also still in contention after a walk-over against Ellon. They will play their first game against Kemnay at Harlaw on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, our ladies senior fours were out at Oldmeldrum. The quarter final saw skip Eileen Moir guide the team to a 13-7 victory against Inverurie. They will play the semi-final next Thursday (9th June) against Balgownie A.

Friday’s A&K fixture against Portlethen did not go in Belhelvie’s favour. Our home team were narrowly beaten 21-18 whilst the away four cam out second best in a 21-10 defeat. Hopefully some pride can be recovered in the last two games!

Saturday saw our ladies triples doing battle in the Scottish. In the semi-final at Ellon, there wasn’t much between the teams however Belhelvie didn’t quite manage to get the better of Westhill who finished up 14-11 to the good.

Finally, Elaine and Phil W played their first game in the Scottish mixed pairs at Pitmedden. Despite a slow start, dropping into an 8-1 deficit in the first 5 ends, a fightback enabled them to eventually run out 18-12 winners. They move on to play Rothienorman at Kintore next Sunday (12th June).
