Results: Week Ending 14th May

Week 2 of the Benachie League saw Belhelvie go down to a narrow defeat at Newmachar with a final score of 47-40. The tie was closely contested throughout; Belhelvie taking the lead for the first half of the game and the scores level after ten ends. Unfortunately. Newmachar managed to pull away over the closing ends. For full Benachie league placings, see here.

Our gents exited the Forbes Hendry this week as a narrow victory at home against Balgownie wasn’t enough to overturn an away deficit. Good luck to Balgownie in the next round.

There was no game for our ladies this week as the Craigie Ladies league fixture against Newmachar was postponed until 30th May.

Also, no A&K Fours fixture as this was Belhelvie’s bye week. The current A&K league tables can be found here.

Joining Night/Opening of the Green

Happy New Season to everybody!

Please join us in the hut between 7pm-8pm on Thursday the 13th April for our joining night. If you’re new to bowls, please feel free to come along and meet us and get more information. For those re-joining, please bring along your competition entry forms and membership fees for 2017.

Opening of the green is 3 days later on Sunday the 16th April at 2pm. We’ve ordered the best weather so come along and enjoy a fun afternoon as we kick off the season!

Doug Riddell Trophy

In 2014 the club lost a beloved member when Doug Riddell passed away. He was an integral member of the club and will be remembered fondly, both by those closest to him and those who never got the chance to meet him but have heard many a tale. He will never be forgotten.

His wife Pat kindly donated a beautiful trophy in his memory and on Sunday there was a large turnout at the club as everyone tried their hand in the 3 bowl singles event in Doug’s honour. In typical Doug fashion the mats were all set up the green, a move he is famed for!

Everyone played very well and a number of the games were incredibly close but at the end of the day Phil Lawson beat Phil Moir in the final to take home the trophy. Congratulations Phil!

Belhelvie Tournament

A big thank you to all who came along to the Belhelvie Tournament on Sunday, both those playing and those behind the scenes making sure the day ran smoothly.

There were a lot of good bowls played on what turned out to be a wonderfully sunny day. The semi-finals were close but the finalists were Tarves (Helen Howie, Bill Howie and Murray Park) and Ellon (Sandra Watt, Willie Christie and Phil Anderson). It was a close game throughout but in the last couple of ends Ellon edged ahead to take the win.

Congratulations to Ellon!

Congratulations – Part 2

Three more internal competitions were finished last week with the finals of the mixed pairs, senior singles and handicap all being played. The winners are as follows:

Mixed Pairs: Lorna and Brian

Senior Singles: Eileen Hutcheon

Handicap: Derek Watson

Well done to you all!

There’s still a few trophies to play for after tonight’s final hat night, with the 2-bowl pairs, 2-4-2 pairs and 7-end singles competitions all scheduled for the next couple of weeks. There’s also the inaugural running of the Doug Riddell singles on Sunday 11th September. Look out for the sign-up sheets for all of these competitions on the noticeboard.
