This week’s Benachie league tie saw our gents in action away at Methlick. The opening exchanges were tight, with nothing to choose between the teams. Belhelvie had the best of the first ten ends though, as a masterstroke with the jack from Ian Finnie on rink 4 helped add a count of 5 to Belhelvie’s overall lead of 12 shots with just a few ends to go. Methlick finished strongly, particularly on rinks 4 and 5 leaving Phil Moir to protect a lead of 3 shots as he played his final end. Phil drew to within 3 inches of the jack with his final bowl leaving a score of two and ensuring Belhelvie took the tie by 5 shots overall.

Belhelvie were one shot down overall, with one end to play on rink 2. Margaret managed to draw two shots, which were never beaten and Belhelvie took the tie by 43 shots to 42.

Final Score 51-52

This week’s Benachie league tie against Newmachar was incredibly close. On a dreich evening, Newmachar managed to pull into an early lead that Belhelvie nibbled away at throughout the second half of the match. With only a few ends left, the two clubs were neck and neck.  In a tense last end, with Newmachar two shots to the good with only rink 4 left to finish, the opposing skip managed to remove one of Alan’s two counting shots to ensure Newmachar won the tie by one shot overall.
