Result: Ladies Forbes Hendry

Despite the horrendous weather on Tuesday our ladies did manage to play their Forbes Hendry quarter final tie against Ellon. The team at home had to contend with some flooding, on their way to a loss by nine shots. Our away team managed to win their game, but their shot difference of +1 wasn’t enough to win on aggregate and Ellon progress.

Result: Scottish Senior Ladies Fours

Lorna, Margaret, Marion and Eileen M. took on Balgownie in the Scottish District 3 senior ladies fours final this morning at Harlaw. They got off to a great start, winning the first 3 end. Balgownie came back at them though, and managed to take and then maintain a lead of a few shots throughout most of what was a very tight game. Belhelvie played extremely well to bring the scores back to 10-11 against going into the final, 15th end. With Belhelvie lying one down, an errant shot by the Balgownie third, Sylvia Thomson,  took out the shot bowl to leave Belhelvie with a single. No change was made by the skips, to leave the game all square and an extra end was required.

In the extra end, Balgownie’s lead, Irene Clubb, drew within a few inches with her opening bowl. Lorna, undeterred drew her two bowls within a similar distance, but not quite close enough to be shot bowl. Margaret tidied up. pushing out the Balgownie bowl and leaving Belhelvie with a winning lie. There was no change to the position after the thirds had played, with Marion’s bowls providing protection to Belhelvie’s shots. Unfortunately,  Annie Gray, Balgownie’s skip was able to promote a short Balgownie bowl with a weighted shot just enough to outcount Belhelvie’s closest. Eileen narrowly missed trailing the jack back to Belhelvie, with the final score 11-12 in Balgownie’s favour.

Very well done to our ladies for getting to the final and for playing so well today.  You can check out a video of the match here.

Results: Benachie League and Scottish

A one-sided tie against Newhills at home in the Benachie league (final score 37-66 to Newhills) ended our gents’ hopes of promotion to Section A. With one round of matches, several teams remain in contention for both promotion and relegation. Click here for all the results and the league tables, heading into the last round of games.

On a happier note, our seniors had great success in the Scottish this week. Our gents won through to the semi-finals, beating Kemnay 13-11 to move forward and face Cruden Bay at Ellon next Thursday. Our senior ladies went one better, beating Balgownie A by 17 shots to 12. Lorna, Margaret, Marion and Eileen Moir will play off against Balgownie B at Harlaw at 10am on Saturday for the title. Very well done to both teams!

Unfortunately, our gents pairs couldn’t make it three out of three, losing to Grant Campbell and Lee Thomson from Ellon at Oldmeldrum.
